11-27-2016 // 11146 Vine Street // Structure Fire -
At 0529 hours the volunteers of Moyers Corners were alerted to a possible structure fire in the 1100 block of Vine Street, in the Town of Clay. While en route, dispatch advised that 911 was receiving multiple calls reporting the roof of a residence on fire. Battalion 2 [Chief Hoosock] had command, Car 2 [Chief Zaferakis] had interior, and Car 1 [Chief Crispin] filled the safety role.

Engine-31 [Lt. Viel] arrived first due and confirmed that smoke and fire were visible from the roof of a 1.5 story residence. Engine-31 mounted an aggressive interior attack, and worked to expose the fire in an attic crawl space. Engine-32 [Capt. Montague] arrived shortly after and assisted with the initial fire attack.

Truck-2 [Lt. Beverly] vented the roof while Rescue-3 [Past Chief Perkins] conducted a primary search of the residence. Engine-41 [Lt. Hamby] and Rescue-4 [Lt. Whitmore] assisted with fire suppression operations, and Ladder-1 [Capt. Schweitzer] handled the RIT/Rehab sectors.

The fire was extinguished within twenty (20) minutes of dispatch, and crews remained on scene afterwards to assist the fire investigators and complete overhaul. Three residents were home at the time of the fire, but thankfully no firefighters or civilians were injured.

The Onondaga County Fire Investigation unit responded and determined the cause of the fire was electrical in nature. NOVA Ambulance and the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office also assisted at the scene. Great job to all of our volunteers, thank you for coming out on a Sunday morning to help the community!
