It is with heavy hearts that we must announce the passing of Retired Life Member James Balla. Jim joined the Moyers Corners Fire Department in October 1978, serving as a firefighter Station 1 until 1989. He also held the position of department treasurer in 1988. After a brief hiatus, he rejoined the MCFD in 1995 and served out of Station 2. Mr. Balla retired from the MCFD in 1999, volunteering for over 15 years combined. Jim was also a custody deputy with the Onondaga County Sheriffs Office for 29 year, retiring in 2016.

If you have served the Moyers Corners Fire Department over the past 20 years, you have definitely met Mr. Balla. Jim graciously donated his time by taking pictures and creating ID badges for our new members. Even after his retirement from our department, Jim was willing to give back. Like clockwork, he was at every "probie orientation" with his equipment ready-to-go. He was one of the first people our new members met, and always wished them the best of luck. Thank you for everything you have done for our department and community Jim, you will be greatly missed.
