Member Spotlight • Station 3 Firefighter of the Year

Station 3’s Firefighter of the Year is FF Matthew Bates. Matt has been at Station 3 since he joined as a RAM in 2015. He became an exterior member in August 2016, quickly becoming interior later that month. His desire to learn more about the fire service was obvious then, and continues to be now. Since becoming interior, we have only seen this firefighter for about 6 months a year, while he pursues his education in Vermont. Even though he spends half a year away, he continues to meet the requirements for training and attendance that we have here at Moyers Corners.

In 2019, he attended 166 fire calls and 63 rescue calls, about 26% of each call category for the year. He made 6 meetings, 17 drills, and 16 standbys. In fact, he was a regular attendee for our Tuesday evening standbys at station 3 when he was here. He became one of the many members that the officers could count on to help with bottle checks, vehicle readiness, and drills. Aside from alarms, drills, and standbys, firefighter Bates completed his Squad 3 qualification in June of 2019.

Congratulations Matt & thank you for your dedication to MCFD and the community we serve.
