09-20-2023 // Residential Fire on Winterberry Way
Just before 7pm Wednesday night, Moyers Corners was alerted by the Onondaga County 911 Center for a reported residential fire on Winterberry Way, off Pine Gate Parkway, in the Station 4 response area.
Shortly after dispatch, an OCSO Patrol Unit arrived and notified responders that there was smoke coming out of multiple windows in the home. Car 1 [Chief Brown] arrived and confirmed the reports from the Deputy. Battalion 2 [B/C Rush] and Car 4 [D/C Beverly arrived shortly after the Chief, and made entry to the home, attempting to locate the fire.
Engine 12 [Lt Bailey] arrived as the first-due Engine Company. They secured their own water supply and deployed an attack hose-line into the residence. Quickly locating the fire in the kitchen, Engine 12 extinguished the fire, and kept it contained to the stovetop. Truck 2 [Lt Orchard] arrived shortly after, and began a search of the home, ensuring that there was nobody inside.
As other units started to arrive, they began their assigned tasks of laddering the structure, securing utilities, and beginning ventilation. This included Engine 31 [Past Capt Wilkinson], Engine 21 [Lt Hart], Engine 41 [Lt Whitmore], Car 2 [D/C Bailey], and Car 3 [D/C Dembowski]. Lakeside Fire Squad 27 also responded to the scene and established a Rapid Intervention Team.
The fire was completely extinguished and declared out within 20 minutes of dispatch.
The fire department was assisted on-scene by the Moyers Corners Fire Police, the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office, and the Onondaga County Fire Investigation Unit. There were no injuries to any fire department personnel or citizens.
